If you’re still hungry after trying my 5 favourite cafes in the Inner West, check any or all of the places below – they’re perfect for a casual weekend lunch.
This vegetarian/vegan joint in Rozelle (across from the Rozelle Collectors Market) is one of my all-time favourite lunch spots. My favourite dishes on the menu are the Mexican Burrito, Ungaro Veggie Balls and Jalfrezi Curry. This place also does great juices and smoothies, and their selection of vegan/raw/paleo treats is amazing.
Don’t get me wrong, this Lebanese restaurant in Leichhardt is a great spot for dinner, but I am a huge fan of their lunch specials. You still get all the goodies (kafta, falafel, hommous etc.), but in a more manageable portion size (their dinner portions are huge!) and for a very small price. The food comes out quickly and the staff is lovely.
In need of a hangover cure? Head to Bonarche Burgers in Leichhardt. This place is a bit of an institution having won the Best of Sydney awards in the gourmet burgers category 4 years in a row. They have an extensive menu and use good quality meat and ingredients. The burgers are huge so don’t bother with ordering a side if you’re not a big eater.
I absolutely love going to the Marrickville Markets on a Sunday (they’re on every Sunday from 9am-3pm). You can not only find fresh produce and handmade goodies here, but there’s an array of food stalls serving up some great lunch options. My favourite is the Jimmy Liks food stall (serving up Southeast Asian dishes). For those of you who are not familiar with the name – Jimmy Liks was a popular restaurant in Potts Point, which had to close due to lower foot traffic in the area (a result of the Sydney lockout laws).
A not-for-profit vegan restaurant in Newtown (they also have other locations) serving up delicious curries and various other dishes (the menu changes daily). They operate on a pay-as-you-feel model; either put cash in the donation box or pay by card.
